Bucky Covington spread holiday cheer to some lucky folks on Saturday night by performing a free concert at Grandville Avenue in Michigan. He sat down afterwards with the Grand Rapids Press for an interview, and admitted that this has been a banner year for him:
‘”Well, right now, we’ve had a really great year. You know, the first debut album came out. And so far, we’ve had three consecutive top 10s. I couldn’t be much happier with that,” he said backstage before his over hour-long show.’
Using the momentum of a very successful 2008, he and his six-member band are heading into the studio to record his sophomore album. Mark Miller of Lyric Street Records will be producing the CD once again.
The folks in Michigan were able to sample some material from the upcoming album, including “Evil Knievel,” which the Grand Rapids Press calls “ridiculously catchy,” with a “no-holds-barred opening and hit-worthy lyrics.” Bucky also sang some cover songs, including Elvis Presley’s “Suspicious Minds,” which his AI peer Chris Daughtry performed during season five. Bucky got his twin brother, Rocky, in on the act, harmonizing on Willie Nelson’s “Seven Spanish Angels”.
Bucky told the Press that he hopes his success thus far will help him to have staying power in the industry:
‘”There’s still a lot of stuff out there that I’d still like to do, you know. But if I could just stay on the same road I’m on for the next 30 years, I would probably be a pretty happy camper.”‘
