Here at American Idol, we are concerned about our environment and have made strong efforts at conserving energy, recycling materials and buying organic foods grown locally. Every little bit adds up and will help set a greener course for us and the world. Here are just a few of the actions we’ve taken to be a more environmentally friendly production:
*We purchase and use all recycled paper goods: printing paper, paper towels, cups, bowls, plates, etc.
*We purchase and use all recycled plastic goods: forks, knives, spoons, etc.
*We make sure that we have recycle bins located at production office as well as remote shoots. These are divided into aluminum, plastics, and paper goods.
*We purchase organic foods (locally grown fruits and dry product when possible) for craft service. We also use an all-organic caterer at all times.
*We recycle our printer cartridges
*We repurpose many of our old sets and stages by incorporating them into new designs.
*We recycle our tape stock and used recycle tape stock whenever possible for dubbing.
*Our generator is run on natural fuel.
*We used recycled carpet for our band risers on the new set.
*American Idol has purchased energy efficient space heaters.
*At night will go around the office to ensure that all lights and equipment are turned off to save energy. This includes unplugging computer chargers, printers, photocopiers, etc.
*We are implementing the use of “Solio†hyrbrid solar chargers for all cellphones and other mobile devices.
*American Idol repurposes Audio Department batteries (AA’s, AAA’s 9 volts) that are deemed unusable on stage after one taping.
*Ford and American Idol will be giving away a Ford Hybrid.
*For Top 12 party contestants were transported in Hybrid vehicles.
