Having gotten all the way to an extremely impressive third place in the fourth season of “Idol,” it’s amazing to think that Vonzell Solomon didn’t even make it past the initial audition the first time she tried out for the show! She charmed viewers with her amazing voice as well as her big smile and easygoing personality. What’s most interesting about Vonzell as a singer is how many types of music she can actually sing. As is listed on her MySpace page, Vonzell sings Gospel, Jazz, R & B, Hip Hop, Country, Rock, Opera, and even songs of the Broadway musicals!

Since being on AI, Vonzell has taken on the artist name “Baby V,” and has even become CEO of her own independent record label, Melodic Records. Her CD, My Struggle, was released to iTunes in January of last year, and is expected to hit stores within the next few months. She also appeared in the film Still Green.

Vonzell has done quite a lot in the holiday music realm in her post-Idol career, having been featured on the compilation Dear Santa holiday collection with some huge names in the industry, including Alicia Keys and Nick Lachey. She also recorded a song called “It’s Gonna Be A Cold Cold Christmas” for another Christmas album, Breaking For The Holidays.

In addition, Vonzell became a paid spokesperson for the United States Postal Service, as she was a mail carrier before being on American Idol.

Vonzell is now on the Simply Ballroom tour. On her website, this is how the show is described: “Currently playing to sold-out audiences across the UK, SIMPLY BALLROOM is now making it’s North American debut starring Celebrity Host, DEBBIE REYNOLDS and AMERICAN IDOL finalists, VONZELL SOLOMON & ANTHONY FEDEROV and a cast of world-class dance champions. A lavish production full of glitz, glamour and breathtaking performances! From the perfection of the Waltz to the passion of the Tango to the power of the Paso Doble, this beautifully staged and orchestrated production has it all!”
Many kids will be thrilled to learn that Vonzell will also be one of the AI alums at Idol Camp this summer!

Happy Birthday Vonzell!

Jon Peter Lewis called for “a little less conversation, a little more action,” on his star-making 2004 American Idol turn, and today, he’s heeding that advice.

Jon Peter Lewis is primed for a major pop breakthrough courtesy of sophomore album Break the Silence, slated to drop June 3rd. The first single set to release digitally on all major digital service providers on March 18th is the title track, an assured, infectious mid-tempo cut that recalls equal parts Ben Folds, Duncan Sheik and vintage Beatles.

Emotionally charged and overflowing with brainy pop hooks, “Break The Silence” finds JPL offering the offbeat wit and inviting persona that made him an Idol cult favorite. Produced by Chris Garcia (Santana, Michelle Branch) and featuring the talents of drummer Kenny Aronoff (John Mellencamp, Indigo Girls) and guitarist Nick Lashley (Alanis Morissette, Natasha Bedingfield), “Break The Silence” is the sound of a talented young artist on the rise.
