It’s always interesting to find out how the "Idol" contestants decide to audition for the show, as many of them don’t come from the traditional music background or training. This was the case with Nick Pedro, who thought to audition after winning a karaoke contest on a cruise with his family. It was the first time he’d ever sung in front of a large group of people, and he gladly accepted his paper crown and plastic trophy.
Nick made it to the final 24 this past season, and is very grateful for the experience. As he explains to The Enterprise, "It totally changed my life all around. I’ve gotten a lot of opportunities because of it. A lot of great things happened to me because of ‘American Idol.’ I owe them a lot."

Season 5 finalist Kellie Pickler will be taking her talents overseas to perform on a USO tour for American troops serving in the Persian Gulf. Coming off her recent CMA nomination, Kellie will be performing songs off her debut album Small Town Girl, signing autographs, and taking pictures with service members.
While this is Kellie’s first USO tour, it isn’t the first time that the Season 5 finalist has performed to benefit the armed forces. Last August, Pickler opened up for Brad Paisley at a concert for over 35,000 soliders and their family members in Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
Kellie said of her upcoming USO performance, "I am so grateful to the USO for the opportunity to travel overseas and perform for troops."
